Why go there?
In the early 19th century, Avize was a major market town with a population of over 2,600.
The town was then enriched by beautiful wine-growing estates such as Château Desbordes. Built by the Debordes family, wine merchants, in the late 19th century, the château remained in the family’s possession until it passed to the Countess of Montégudé. It subsequently became the property of the local council.
Come and explore every nook and cranny of this remarkable part of Avize’s heritage, with its splendid views of the surrounding hillsides.
Two-hour guided tours in French at 10.00 and 14.00, Saturdays and Sundays
