Abbaye Saint-Pierre D'hautvillers

Why go there?

If it cannot be visited, the place symbolically remains the cradle of Champagne.

The abbey, founded in 650 by Saint Nivard, Archbishop of Reims, a prophetic dove indicated to him the place where he was to found a new monastery following the rule of Saint-Benoît and Saint-Colomban.

It welcomed Dom Pérignon whose life is closely associated with the creation of Champagne wine.

The abbey is now owned by Moët & Chandon (LVMH group). In 2012, the cloister of the abbey was restored and the Porte Saint-Hélène was rebuilt identically by Moët & Chandon in association with the architects of the buildings of France.
